There is nothing totally wrong with this story, but the author could have done more to make it more exciting and less weak.Diana Somerset's husband abuses her and runs around with other women, then tragedy occurs. Diana and her daughter, Hannah, are left alone but along comes a saviour, the husband's womanising, rich stepbrother - and you guessed it, takes over his younger stepbrother's debts. Then trouble ensues and Devlan Doyle, comes to the rescue again and takes over the family this time.
Diana naturally will not spend his money on herself but is quite prepared to sleep with Devlan for the cost of her daughter's medical care. She then runs off into the night with the usual contradictions and lack of communication playing out as per traditional romantic mayhem followed by some nifty deceit.
I wanted to slap both main characters silly because they were very annoying and did stupid things. Diana was supposed to be a professional woman and intelligent, but her wilful misunderstanding totally weakened the plot. There were several loose ends which were not addressed, her husband's Will and how the husband got into Diana's Trust Fund. How Diana was going to get Hannah taken out of Devlan's Will couldn't happen anyway.
There were several anomalies - the "other woman" was thrown out of the car, but was in it later on - and the editing was sloppy in places.
I don't want to give a spoiler, that's not fair to the author, however the plot and ending were conventional. The author, in my opinion, needed to dig deeper and include something unexpected to make the story less predictable and "flesh out" her characters.

This novel catches and takes captive of the reader despite its fumbles and tumbles. I was enjoying it until the main character started getting on my nerves somewhere at midpoint. Her distrust of men took many forms and odd directions.
In the story, Diana--the stunningly beautiful protagonist--has suffered a bad marriage and the scandalous death of her husband, ending up wounded and distrustful of men. Her late husband's stepbrother Devlan, a highly successful and handsome businessman, suddenly shows up in her life with the pretext of taking care of Diana's daughter Hannah's affairs, as the child is left an inheritance.
Then, a few months later, when Hannah is badly hurt in a car accident, Devlan shows up again and takes the mother and daughter under his wings. In the meantime, the attraction and love affair between Devlan and Diana has become central to the story. What follows is the heightened tension with a whole slew of mistaken actions, assumptions, and miscommunication on both sides.
At times, this story turns into a fairy tale romance with the male lead too good to be true and the female lead too harebrained because of her false pride and foolhardiness. A few coincidences together with some of the twists in the story felt concocted to me, and although I felt annoyed with Diana's actions, I still kept on reading, since the story flows well, and I became curious about how the writer would tie up the plot.
In short, Hannah's Blessing is an absorbing story that takes unexpected twists and turns, if you are willing to overlook a few blemishes.
This was a free download from and Collette Scott the author pulled me in to the story so much that I could not stop reading till it was done. Hannah was Diane Somersets daughter. And when her husband Peter left her for another woman after draining her and Hannahs Bank account, then was involved in a car crash on the way to a cabin in the mountains with his new lover and was killed. Peters half brother Devlan Doyle showed up at the funeral and approached Diana offering her help she turned him down. Peter had told him horrible stories about Devlan and so she didn't trust him, she didn't trust any man after her womanizing husband who apparently even beat her. Then a car ran into Hannah and she was in critical condition. Devlan had stationed a man to watch Diana to make sure she was safe as was his only heiress Hannah. But he also had ulterior motives. He had actually started falling in love with Diana when he went to her and Peters wedding. Though at the time he was stubborn and just wanted to bed her. Diana didn't know that her husband was way behind on the house payments and that he had drained her account but unbeknownst to her Devlan contacted the Bank and covered most of his debts which were in the thousands. But he couldn't save the house and she lost it and moved to an apartment a very small apartment. Devlan appeared at the hospital and made arrangements for the best specialists to care for Hannah. He then moved Hannah and Diana to Malibu so that Hannah could be in the best rehab center. She had broken leg and other injuries. Diana agreed to do anything to help Hannah. Diana had built a wall around herself but Devlan was breaking that wall down. Then things got in the way like a friend Roxanne who wanted to be more than a friend with Devlan though he wasn't interested in her. Despite Diana's fear of being hurt she fell for him and again things kept getting in the way. He took them to Hawaii and a vacation on his yacht and pampered Diana and Hannah despite her not wanting his money and his things. Then she discovered she was pregnant and she was panicky and scared plus the fact that while Devlan was in New York Roxanne visited and told Diana she and Devlan were to be married, a total lie, Diana runs away. She refuses to try and contact Devlan and Devlan made up his mind if she was going to run away like that without a word he wasn't going to chase her and force her to do anything, though he had bought her an engagement ring and fully well planned on asking her to marry him. She left found a friend in Arizona and began working for him in his art shop. He was a gay artist. Roxanne convinced Devlan to go to a charity art auction and he bought a desert scene that looked like Diane was the model and finally tracked her down. In the mean time she gave birth to his son, Bryce Devlin. She wanted to tell him but in her time and way because she was afraid he would take him away from her and he and Roxanne would raise him. Finally after much ado they do get together and talk. I shall not reveal the happy ending. It was well worth reading this story.
