Our main character wakes to find not only is he hooked to some sort of machine, he's in a run down building who knows where, and to make things even worse, there's a dead guy on the floor. That's when he realizes that the dead guy in the room isn't actually the worst part, he not only has no idea how he got there, where there is, but he doesn't even know who the heck is the guy in the mirror looking back at him, he doesn't even recognize his voice. The only thing he knows for sure is his instinctual knowledge that he can't even call the police for help. As we follow along while he searches for answers, he begins to wonder if he actually wants to know what happened to him.

The characters [both main and secondary] are well defined, the main character gradually becoming more defined as he learns more and more about himself and his situation. Before you know it, you find that you're completely invested with his search for self. No noticeable typos or errors with sentence structure, the storyline was well thought out, with events unraveling at a steady pace, keeping the reader invested in our main character's situation.

The ending while a bit surprising, it's in a good way, leaving you satisfied with the turn of events as well as the story. I would definitely read this book more than once. Highly Recommended.

Rewind BookShots A thriller of dark suspense The Midnight Book Club 3 eBook Jeremy Bates Reviews

Brilliant! I really enjoyed Rewind, it's a fresh and unpredictable take on the idea of memories and how they figure into our lives. It's a fast paced page-turner full of Jeremy Bates wonderful variety of suspense. I'm happy to see a short story from him, as much as I enjoy his full length novels, sometimes you just want a yummy morsel you can finish in one sitting.
The story begins in a shroud of mystery as the protagonist struggles to discover who he is, what is real and not real. Great job of describing the fear and trauma he goes through as he reasons things out with the barest of clues. The ending is a twisted surprise, something this author does well. This is an excellent quick read, very suspenseful and a nice mix of sci-fi bent with Hitchcock neo-noir.
I love stories like this you wake up in a room no idea how you got there, strange machines are connected to you, you have no memory of who you are, you have no memory of anything prior to waking up. Rewind's take on this storyline is entertaining, mysterious and has a clever twist. Great escapist read.
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this at first because the beginning was making zero sense. As I read, however, the pace picked up, and I was trying to figure out what the heck was going on with the main character, and wondering what he was going to do next. The story does NOT disappoint! Good read.
Yesterday I finished the Jeremy Bates book “The Taste of Fear” and gave it a five-star review. I liked it so much I purchased “Rewind” last night and just finished reading it. Wow!! Early on, I thought I figured out what the ending would be – foolish me. This is a fantastic short story that held my interest from beginning to end. Tonight I’m starting “Helltown” which I also downloaded last night and after finishing it I’m looking forward to reading all the books written by Mr. Bates.
I have to say it, the beginning was a little boring, I almost deleted this story from my . But I persevered and it picked up and swiftly ended with a bang. I don't like to rehash the author's writing, so I will just say the ending made up for a little boring in the beginning. I liked this story because it was written without spelling or punctuation errors, and I could not have foreseen the ending.
If you haven't yet discovered Jeremy Bates, you're in for a treat! I found one of his books listed for free (Suicide Forest) and after reading that, I went out and bought several of his books, including this one. Bates is really good at setting up a scene, developing the characters (even in a novella such as this one, which is something many authors struggle with) and making something pretty far-fetched seem absolutely believable.

In Rewind, a man wakes up in a dark and dingy apartment, electrodes on his head and a dead body in the next room. He has no idea who he is or how he got there. His story is one of discovering his identity, bit by bit, and then a shock when he's faced with the fact that maybe remembering isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

I'd put this in the psychological suspense genre rather than horror - with just a touch of sci-fi. It's well written, well plotted and it will keep you turning the pages. Thanks to the author for writing such a great book - I look forward to starting on the next one!
